In South Florida’s underground hip-hop scene, 40BandKaution has never been one to take shortcuts. From recording raw, off-the-top verses to putting in years of groundwork, his journey is exactly what the title of his latest collab with Diamondz suggests — built brick by brick.

With a voice that blends hunger, authenticity, and a dash of unfiltered humor, 40BandKaution opens up about the meaning behind the track, the challenges of being an independent artist, and how collaboration can break through the ego-fueled walls in his local scene.
With R3 Ignite Auxwars just around the corner and his highly anticipated project New Deposit 2 on the way, this moment feels like a pivotal chapter for the Broward County rapper. In this candid conversation, he talks foundation, frustration, and fearlessness — and why no matter what, he’ll keep building until the vision is complete.
About the Track: Brick By Brick
Q: What was your first reaction when you heard the concept for “Brick By Brick”?40BandKaution: I thought the concept was a very creative approach to a very serious message — the frustration from upcoming artists in the industry.
Q: What did the title “Brick By Brick” mean to you personally as you approached your verse?40BandKaution: I immediately thought about Franklin Saint in the show Snowfall and how he built everything brick by brick… only to watch it all get taken away. That’s a feeling I’m familiar with. (Just not with cocaine.)
Q: How did you interpret the song’s message in your own writing and delivery?40BandKaution: To me, the message was about how upcoming artists give their all and basically have to be their own manager, engineer, producer, and booking agent — all while trying to balance real life.
Q: What part of your verse are you most proud of, and why?
40BandKaution: I’m proud of the entire verse. It was raw emotions from start to finish. I didn’t even write it down — it was off the top, from the soul.
Q: How do you think this track reflects where you are now in your career?40BandKaution: It reflects where I am because I’m at least six years deep into the industry. I feel like I have the things I need to be successful, but I’m nowhere near where I want to be. I’m still building a strong foundation.
40BandKaution & Diamondz: Creative Chemistry
Q: What’s your creative chemistry like with Diamondz, and how has it evolved since your first collab?
40BandKaution: It’s natural, it’s constructive, and sometimes it’s hilarious. We started making music together in 2020 when we recorded “Bigger Bag.” Since then, we’ve both evolved into the artists we were meant to be, and we’ve collaborated during every step of the process.
Q: What made you say “yes” to jumping on this specific track?
40BandKaution: I didn’t say yes. It was a non-consensual feature… or better yet, stagetory rap.
Q: Did you and Diamondz align on the message from the start, or did the vision grow as you worked together?
40BandKaution: As soon as I heard the track and the message, the words started popping into my head. The vision grew once we had both verses and got to clash heads.
Q: Any behind-the-scenes moments from recording or mixing the track?
40BandKaution: It was the day before I was going on vacation, and I knew if I didn’t record the lyrics in my head, they’d disappear. So I loaded up Pro Tools and got straight to work.
Q: How important is it for you to collaborate with other local artists on a mission?40BandKaution: Very important. I feel like South Florida’s biggest problem is that everyone has an ego and would rather be divided. If more artists worked together for the love of music and the culture, there would be more successful artists from here — and people would pay attention because we’d be united.
Vision & Impact: 40BandKaution’s Perspective
Q: What’s one thing you want people to feel when they hear your verse on “Brick By Brick”?40BandKaution: I want them to feel pressure — that feeling of giving your all and not knowing if it’s enough.

Q: What do you think this record says about the state of the underground scene in South Florida?
40BandKaution: It shows how cutthroat the industry can be. Me and Ounce have moved as artists for years and seen so many situations where the upcoming artist is disrespected.
Q: Do you feel like artists in your position are fairly represented right now — or overlooked?40BandKaution: Some are fairly represented because they have organic fan bases, and I salute them. But many others are overlooked because of the content era.
Q: Where do you see your sound or message going next? Any solo work coming soon?40BandKaution: I’m shifting my sound in a fairly new direction to end this year. I’m recording my next project New Deposit 2, a sequel to my EP New Deposit.
Q: If “Brick By Brick” opened new doors for you — what’s the next one you’re kicking down?40BandKaution: I’m not sure yet… but I’m ready for whatever comes my way.
What’s Next for 40BandKaution

Q: With R3 Ignite Auxwars coming up on August 23rd, what’s your mentality going into the competition, and what do you want people to feel when they hear your set?
40BandKaution: I’m coming in with the same mentality I have in any competition — the underdog mentality. Even though I’m part of Room 3 and they’re throwing the competition, I want people to feel the countless hours I’ve put into my work.
Q: How are you balancing the intensity of prepping for Auxwars while also locking in creatively for New Deposit 2?
40BandKaution: Honestly, I feel more pressure about my project than the competition. I know I’ll be going up against some of the best upcoming artists in South Florida, but I also know myself and my music are more than up to par.
Q: What does this moment — between a major competition and a new release — say about where you’re at in your career right now?
40BandKaution: It shows I’m at a point where I’m fearless and will keep pushing my music until I’m where I need to be.

Q: Has the energy or pressure from Auxwars influenced the direction or content of New Deposit 2 in any way?
40BandKaution: Not really. When I make music, I’m in a whole other world. I either touch on real subjects or make lit, energetic bangers.
Q: When people look back at this chapter — the competition and the project — what do you want them to remember about 40BandKaution?
40BandKaution: I want them to remember how I kept going.
40BandKaution isn’t just stacking tracks — he’s stacking moments. Each verse, each performance, and each collaboration is another brick in a structure he’s determined to see stand tall. Whether it’s Brick By Brick, the upcoming New Deposit 2, or stepping into the R3 Ignite Auxwars arena, he’s proving that South Florida’s underdogs can’t be ignored. In his own words — he’s going to keep going, and the foundation he’s building now will be impossible to knock down later.
