Ounce Diamondz Interview: Shares the Meaning Behind “Brick By Brick” Feat. 40BandKaution

UPN6XT Exclusive – August 2025

South Florida has no shortage of talent, but few artists are speaking truth to power quite like Ounce Diamondz. Raw, reflective, and unapologetically real, his new single “Brick by Brick” featuring 40 isn’t just another drop—it’s a declaration.

Ounce Diamondz

More than a track, it’s a call to rebuild a broken scene from the ground up, challenging the pay-to-play politics and shady showcases that plague up-and-coming artists.

In this exclusive UPN6XT interview, Ounce Diamondz breaks down the inspiration behind “Brick by Brick”, his creative process, and the power of collaboration.

From AA-meeting aesthetics to second-person bars that flip the narrative, Ounce Diamondz is proving that authenticity still hits the hardest.

About the Track

Q: What inspired “Brick By Brick”? What does the title mean to you?

Ounce Diamondz:

“Brick By Brick” is a rebuild anthem — the rebirth of Diamondz. After being sidelined too long, I’m reclaiming space, building a reputable community in place of the shady scene I left behind.

Q: Was there a particular moment that sparked the concept?

Ounce Diamondz: Yeah—it came from a mentor conversation. Tone C was voicing frustration with the current South Florida music scene. It had me thinking: how do I start something different, something not just about the money?

Q: What key message are you hoping fans take from the song?

Ounce Diamondz: Being an artist down south isn’t easy—especially if you’re not “popular.” Many juggle life and music without full support. This song is relatable to those trying to balance priorities. Music shouldn’t feel like a burden.

Q: How does this song fit into your overall creative path?

Ounce Diamondz: This is storytelling at heart, with symbolic elements and mind teasers woven throughout. Every lyric has a purpose and connects to my narrative.

Q: The beat hits hard—who produced it, and what drew you to it?

Ounce Diamondz: Producer: SAYONARA. I discovered the beat on YouTube, and its intro immediately reminded me of an AA meeting vibe. It perfectly matched the emotion and concept—it was destiny.

Ounce Diamondz' Collaboration with 40

Q: How did working with 40 come together?

Ounce Diamondz: We’re good friends. He was the second artist I collaborated with after going independent—so another team‑up was inevitable!

Q: What made him the right fit for this track?

Ounce Diamondz: I needed someone with bars and who understood the melodic tone. 40 was the only choice—he gets the concept, and we’ve talked about this for a minute.

Q: Did you record in studio together or separately?

Ounce Diamondz: Each of us recorded in our home studios, then mixed in mine. We needed that raw, unfiltered energy in our creative process.

Q: Describe the vibe when working on the song.

Ounce Diamondz: We cook up creativity weekly—never get stumped. This project was reflective: we locked into the emotion and what we needed to say.

Q: Any standout moments during the creation?

Ounce Diamondz: The music video concept clicked. It’s AA‑meeting themed but real—capturing artists struggling to break the mold. Bringing that to light is powerful.

Ounce Diamondz' Creative Process

Q: How do you approach writing this track—hook, beat, or concept first?

Ounce Diamondz: It began with the idea—Tone C’s critique. I found the beat that gave me the emotion, and then it clicked: I’m here to talk my s**t, Dawg I Built It Brick By Brick. From there, the hook and verse flowed naturally.

Q: Is there a line in the verse you’re most proud of?

Ounce Diamondz:

“Got no baddies in the back, no motion—that’s a fact, feeling like a big Dyke ’cause I got a big strap.”It’s delivered as if the haters or skeptics are speaking—viewing my hustle through their lens. It’s second‑person narrative. I love that.

Q: How long did it take to finish the track?

Ounce Diamondz: Pretty quick. Hook and verse laid first day. 40Band sent his verse in a few days. Mixed and released it soon after during a studio weekend at my place.

Q: Any creative or technical challenges?

Ounce Diamondz: Not really. We understand this life too well. It's easier to write from lived experiences. Miami's scene is shifting—maybe not always for the better—but that change fuels our vision.

Q: Did you tweak much between the original and final version?

Ounce Diamondz: Honestly, not much. I did go heavy on effects initially—then dialed it back. But the essence stayed intact. When I make music, I go with feeling over analysis.

Release & Impact

Q: What does this release represent for you now?

Ounce Diamondz: It’s the rebuild—my career’s rebirth. Me and 40Band are reshaping South Florida’s narrative, brick by brick.

Q: Is “Brick By Brick” part of a larger project?

Ounce Diamondz: Right now it’s a standalone, but we’ve been making tracks back‑to‑back. There’s potential for a larger project down the line.

Ounce Diamondz

Q: What’s the promotion plan—videos, performances, campaigns?

Ounce Diamondz: We’re starting with social media teasers, then photo shoots and video recording. Expect personal and promotional content now, and performances closer to release.

Q: How does this song contribute to today’s hip‑hop landscape?

Ounce Diamondz: It adds a relatable narrative for the under‑recognized artist in big cities. Talent alone doesn’t guarantee success—this is the truth for many grinding without mainstream attention.

Q: If fans could take away one thing—lyrically or emotionally—what would it be?

Ounce Diamondz: Both verses together—they carry that therapeutic power music has. It's for artists hitting roadblocks in showcases and trying to get heard.
