SURFACE GREY is a Houston-based artist, producer, DJ, and songwriter whose genre-blending sound bridges Hip-Hop, R&B/Soul, Pop, Electronic, and Alternative influences. Raised in Houston’s freestyle-driven culture, he credits the city’s emphasis on lyrical improvisation as the foundation of his artistry. What began as spontaneous freestyling evolved into structured songwriting once he recognized the power of capturing those fleeting ideas on record.
Inspired by the musicality of Michael Jackson, the soulful depth of D'Angelo, and the production sensibilities of J Dilla, SURFACE GREY has developed a sound that merges melodic emotion with rhythmic precision. His music reflects Houston’s improvisational roots while expanding into layered instrumentation and conceptual storytelling.
By 2020, SURFACE GREY had refined his artistic direction and began releasing music publicly. In 2021, he made a strong statement as a producer with his conceptual project Perfected Timing, a body of work centered on the concept of time—its value, misuse, and emotional weight. The project highlighted not only his technical production ability but also his thoughtful approach to theme and narrative.
He continued building momentum with his second artist project, Overcast, showcasing catchy flows and a refined ear for production. The project featured collaborations with Houston’s DAVESTATEOFMIND, as well as Young Pink and Rizz Cappolatti, expanding his creative network and reach.
