Jacob Avina Reflects on Youth and Hope in New Single “Beautiful Day”

Alt-rap newcomer Jacob Avina, better known as @ascaryknight, shares one of his most personal and poignant tracks to date with the release of “Beautiful Day.” Blending lo-fi textures, vintage soul samples, and heartfelt lyricism, the track captures the raw emotion of coming-of-age during an uncertain time.

Born from a Halloween night performance in 2020—Jacob’s first-ever live show—“Beautiful Day” began as a loop built hours after the crowd cleared out. Sampling The Lovations’ “(I Keep Singing) La La La Ooh,” the beat’s nostalgic soulfulness became the foundation for a song rooted in transition and self-discovery.

“I had just graduated high school, and the pandemic basically erased all of those final memories,” Jacob recalls. “The first verse is about being stuck between endings and beginnings—like, I didn’t know what was next, but I knew I had to keep going.”

The hook—“Still young as f**, I know there’s so much more to come”*—becomes a mantra for the track’s message of hope, resilience, and youthful ambition. From the ticking hi-hats to the voice of Jacob’s former UPS coworker Bobby waking him up in the intro, the song is filled with real-life details that add authenticity to the sonic journey.

Influenced by artists like Jpegmafia, Tyler, the Creator, and Kurt Cobain, Jacob blends alternative, punk, and experimental rap in a way that’s wholly his own. “Beautiful Day” is a time capsule of early ambition—raw, hopeful, and honest.

Now streaming on all platforms, “Beautiful Day” invites listeners to reflect on their own turning points and the quiet beauty of chasing something greater.
